Opportunity + development

A known medicine.
A new purpose.

Etidronate was originally developed for osteoporosis. Research at UMC Utrecht identified its potential to inhibit ectopic mineralisation in people with PXE.

When commercial production disappeared, the challenge changed: rebuild access to the compound, create a viable development programme and generate the evidence required for registration in this rare disease.
