Haltex Therapeutics
Repurposing etidronate for PXE, building on academic clinical research and creating a registration pathway for a treatment that had effectively disappeared from the market.
A known medicine.
A new purpose.
Etidronate was originally developed for osteoporosis. Research at UMC Utrecht identified its potential to inhibit ectopic mineralisation in people with PXE.
When commercial production disappeared, the challenge changed: rebuild access to the compound, create a viable development programme and generate the evidence required for registration in this rare disease.

Haltex Therapeutics
PXE
Building a development route around a forgotten medicine.
Registration in sight.
Access built into the route.
Bringing a treatment back only matters if patients can use it.
Haltex combines pharmaceutical development with a social-business model built around collaboration, transparency and a future price intended to keep etidronate accessible to patients.
